1st Wednesday Tech Topic

Today, a few brave individuals joined Glen in the LS computer lab for the inaugural Wednesday Tech Topic help session. The following points were covered
  • Logging in using your "network" profile (i.e. ewilson)
  • Logging in using the "local" ID (i.e. teacher)
  • Changing the dock: adding and removing items
Logging in:
The network refers to ID used to log in to a computer when you are on campus. The computers on campus are linked via wireless (or wired) connections that allow you to access your profile (i.e. ewilson). If you are not on campus, you are not linked via wireless (or wired) connections and cannot access your network profile (i.e. ewilson) with all of your documents. When you are not on campus, use the "local" ID, which allows you to log into the computer, but not access files that are available at school (through the server, which is located on campus).

Changing the dock:
By dragging shortcuts (also referred to as icons) to the dock, you can add any application. When dragging the shortcut, be sure to drag it all the way down to the dock and watch for other shortcuts to move aside. If you want to remove a shortcut, simply drag it off of the dock. You will see a small cloud appear and hear a sound similar to when you drop an item in the trash. If you wish to add an entire folder to your dock, drag it to the right hand side, next the trash. There is a dotted white line dividing the two sections of the dock. Clicking and dragging the cursor when it is on this line enables you to enlarge or shrink the dock.
