Working from home
While we have not reached the point where we can telecommute as teachers, we do have the option of working from home on any file that we want. Today's (9/24) Wednesday Tech Topic was how to edit documents that are on your "network" profile (i.e. ewilson), or username. When working from home you cannot log in using your network username (see previous week's posting or the FAQs on the right side). In order to access the computer, you must use the "local" ID, or username. For each of the computers, this would be the username "teacher". If you do not recall the password, please see me with any questions.
While you are logged in as "teacher", you can access all the programs on the computer. After you are finished working on this, you save your files (to the documents or desktop, whichever you prefer). When you arrive at school, log in to the machine with the same "teacher" username.
If you log in using your network profile (i.e. ewilson), you will not see the files that you created
or worked on at home. Once you have logged in, you will click on "Go" at the top of the screen and select "Connect to Server" at the bottom of the list. (NOTE: These pictures are meant to serve as visual aids. It is not possible to click on the image and connect to the server. You must follow the written directions. The picture is what you should see when you are at each step).A screen will come up requiring you to type in the server address.

Type "10.0.0.4" and then click on the plus sign to the right of the box where you typed "10.0.0.4". Once you have added the server address, by clicking the plus sign, click on the button that says "Connect".
From this point on, you will log in using your network profile, or ID, (i.e. ewilson). A list of "volumes" to be "mounted" will appear. Select the one with your name (either ewilson or ericwilson) and drag the files you created at home, using the teacher log in, to your network files. After this has been completed, you can log out of the teacher username and log in using your network ID.
